How to backup or restore your files and settings?

Microsoft Windows Provides built-in Utility for taking and restoring backup for Windows settings and files. If you are using your PC at your home and have critical information then you must take your files backup at least once in a week. In case of crash of your PC or hard disk failure you can restore your files.

Backup your files and settings
First of all load backup utility. There are 2 methods for loading backup utility

  1. Open Run Command type “%SystemRoot%system32tbackup.exe” without quotes and press enter.
  2. Start menu => All Programs => Accessories => System tools => Backup.

Step 1
When you will start this utility. You will see Welcome window and check box option

Always start in wizard mode
Keep checked this option and click on Next button.

Step 2
Select option Back or Restore. What do you want to do?

Select option “Backup files and settings” and click Next button.

Step 3
What to backup option. What do you want to backup?

Everyone’s documents and settings
All information on this computer
Let me choose what to backup
Select option for your need and click Next button.

Step 4
In this step select location and file name and name of your backup. All items you selected in Step 3 will store in that file for future use. Backup will store file with extension bkf.

Step 5
This is final step. This step will show you settings and options you selected. Review the settings carefully and click on Finish button. Backup process will start.

Note: After taking backup it is strongly recommended that you must copy your .bkf file into any backup device like CD-DISK or DVD-DISK or any Falsh USB memory.

Restore your files and settings
Same utility mentioned above can restore your files and settings from .bkf files into your Windows XP.
